Lower school music lays the foundation for all the performing arts disciplines at SBS. While establishing in students a love and appreciation for the arts, students apply the principals of Orff and Kodaly; learning the music essentials through songs, games and movement. Basic rhythmic and melodic components are applied while using percussion, string and woodwind instruments throughout their lower school experience. Grade level programs provide foundations for tuneful singing, choral exploration and dramatic interpretations.
The middle and upper School instrumental music department develops the musicianship of the individual student. Instrumental music opportunities for students include Beginner Band for fifth and sixth grade students (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion), Intermediate Band for seventh and eighth grade students with one-two years of previous experience and Eagle Band for ninth through twelfth grade students with at least three years of previous experience.

Lower and Middle School
Building on the lower school introduction to tuneful singing, choir begins in middle school as an elective course to provide students an opportunity to explore and experience vocal music.
Vision Choir is a large ensemble made up of an astounding one-third of the upper school student body. Performing in various concerts throughout the year, choir students are able to participate in contests, events and local and state competitions through Texas Private School Music Educators (TPSME) and Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Additionally, the upper school choir travels internationally to perform in churches and venues across Europe during Interim Term.
