Serving AGAPE

Each year, the SBS faculty and staff gather for a Christmas party. Just as Jesus came to serve and not be served, the faculty and staff have, for several years now, seized this opportunity to come together and give back. This year, faculty and staff served Agape Development founded by SBS grads and current SBS parents Amanda ‘96 and Kirk ‘96 Craig.

Agape strives to bring hope and transformation to Houston's Third Ward through economic, emotional and spiritual empowerment. Agape's after-school program, Backyard Bible Club (BBC), utilizes snacks each day to give the kids a boost after they get out of school. This gives the neighborhood children a chance to do their homework and ask questions, while also receiving a healthy snack before getting into the core of the program. Additionally, intentional discipleship often happens over a meal in the young adult and adult programs. Gift cards are helpful to Agape so that this discipleship-building can continue to happen. Faculty and staff joyfully loaded bags overflowing with paper goods, snacks and gift cards for the ministry.

The day after the delivery was made the Agape Director of Development wrote back, “I walked in this morning and was so overwhelmed. Thank you SO very much for all of the gifts of paper goods, snacks and gift cards. WOW! Y'all completely out-did yourselves in terms of giving. We are so grateful and blessed by y'all.”

Thank you, SBS faculty and staff, for your servant hearts. Merry Christmas!
