Theatre Arts

The first full-scale theatrical production occurs in middle school when seventh and eighth grade students annually participate in the spring musical. This exciting opportunity allows students to perform in front of an audience of over 300 per performance while introducing them to all aspects of performing that can lead them to a lifelong journey of participation in the arts.

Upper school actors perform in two major productions each year, the fall drama and the spring musical. The fall drama is a full-scale drama production performed on the SBS campus that stretches students in performance-based learning. Past performances include classics like Emma by Jane Austen and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The Tommy Tune Award-winning Second Baptist School musicals are performed at the beautiful new Jeannette and L.M. George Theatre in Houston. By involving a significant number of upper school students in the musical cast, orchestra and stage crew, the spring musical is the ultimate culmination of the Second Baptist School arts program.
