Seniors at Second Baptist School carry significant influence and responsibility. As a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade school, seniors are often seen as student leaders. During the Junior Leadership Inauguration, the torch of leadership is officially passed from one senior class to the upcoming one with inspiring messages from school leaders. Tuesday’s ceremony was a time for exhortation and celebration of our incoming seniors, the Class of 2019.
Fielden Baker ‘19 reflects on the Inauguration by saying, “The ceremony was inspiring. When Mr. Davis spoke about how ‘true leaders care,’ it made me proud to be part of a class that already cares and will continue to do so as the senior class.” He went on to say, “I was inspired by Miss Simonton's definition of wisdom as ‘a passion for truth.’ As we prepare for our senior year, every one of us will have opportunities to serve in a thousand different ways - big and small - and I'm excited about that!”
The most profound moment of the ceremony is when time is taken for parents and grandparents to pray over their incoming seniors. Led by senior Bible teacher Jeannene Simonton, this unique and moving prayer time allows parents and students to reflect on their time at SBS, to give thanks for the opportunities they have had and to ask for wisdom to lead with integrity and care as they look forward to an exciting and challenging senior year.
“The ceremony truly made me feel just how soon our senior year is coming. It was surreal,” stated Elizabeth Wiesen ’19. “It is crazy to think that I used to be one of the lower school students admiring the seniors, and now, I am about to be one. The inauguration allowed me to focus on the importance and necessity of influential leaders, especially upon the younger students.”
Join us in praying for the Class of 2019 and the path they have set before them.
