Fourth Grade Field Trip

Fourth graders loaded the buses eager to extend their knowledge of Texas history and famous inventors and their inventions. Their first stop was Taste of Texas where restaurant owner and SBS alumni parent Nina Hendee introduced our students to her Texas history collection. Mrs. Hendee told stories about famous Texans and showed our students artwork and artifacts she’s collected dating far back into our great state’s history.
“My favorite part was hearing Mrs. Hendee tell the stories,” said Matthew when asked about the field trip. Mrs. Hendee’s storytelling was a highlight of the trip for many students. A few fourth graders even got to dress up as famous Texans while Mrs. Hendee recounted the adventures of the historical figures.
Nic said about his visit to the Taste of Texas, “I loved seeing the artwork with hidden pictures in the restaurant.”
Once they finished the history lesson and tour of the restaurant, students were shown inside the industrial-sized freezer. This made an already fun trip even cooler! “All of it was fun, but I liked going into the freezer the best,” said Kambell.
During their visit with Kegg’s Candies, fourth graders studied the candy business and saw firsthand what goes into making the candy! They were excited to see the inventions that are necessary to making candy. Sarah said, “I like watching the chocolate go through the belt. And I really liked sampling the candy!”
Our students are blessed with opportunities like this to take classroom lessons and see real life application. Jackson’s takeaway from the day’s adventure was, “I liked watching the movie about Kegg’s Candies to see how they started their business.”
Sounds like the Class of 2026 has some future entrepreneurs, inventors, historians and more! We can’t wait to see what they will do!
