For many seventh and eighth graders, being a cast member in Alice in Wonderland, Jr. includes lots of fun and lots of hard work. Hours of rehearsals to learn dance steps, memorize lines, block scenes, try on costumes and more all added to the unforgettable middle school musical experience. Pair that with the direction of Mr. Sam Brown and our students were ready for opening night. Upbeat singing, clever choreography and colorful costumes took the audience on a magical and spectacular journey through Wonderland as each student played his/her character with pizzazz!
The middle school musical program began in 2006 under the direction of Cindy Blades. In 2007, Claire Westmoreland joined the Arts Department as the music director. This dynamic duo has been producing and directing shows at Second Baptist School for a long time. Thirteen years and 22 musicals later, the program is well established and continues to grow each year.
“Middle school is such an important level of learning as they are developing and discovering their God-given talents in musical theatre. Our hope is their love of theatre would continue to grow as they enter upper school at SBS,” says Director of Arts Cindy Blades.
A tremendous and heartfelt thank you to our parent volunteers who tirelessly and generously support the middle school musical program. We couldn’t do this without them!
