Heroes Game

Last week, the Second Baptist School men’s and women’s varsity soccer teams hosted players from Emery Weiner, fans and some very special guests from local chapters of the Gold Star Families and Gold Star Dads organizations. Gold Star Families and Gold Star Dads are organizations for families of loved ones who lost their lives during active duty while serving in the armed forces.
“The families were honored in several ways before and during the game,” said Varsity Men’s Soccer Coach, Guy Chalhoub. He continued, “Prior to the game, a memorial wall was set up in the Athletic Center where visitors could view soldiers’ pictures and learn about them. Some Gold Star families were also present with the memorial to answer questions and meet our fans.”
For further impact, Coach Chalhoub assigned our players a role in the event.
“I wanted to make sure the players truly understood the reason we were playing the game and holding this event. I asked them to research the soldier's name they were wearing on the back of their jerseys.” He went on to say, “I wanted them to understand that regardless of the outcome, our purpose is to honor these families and soldiers.”
Second Baptist School thanks the Gold Star Families and Gold Star Dads of Houston for making the Heroes Game a successful and meaningful event. SBS is humbled and grateful for the ultimate sacrifices these families made to ensure our freedoms.
