When faced with extra funds at the end of the 2017-2018 school year, the upper school Chinese Club was given a few options of what to do with the overflow. These options included a luncheon for their club, t-shirts for next year and a few other ideas. What they chose instead reflected their selflessness and desire to serve.
The Chinese Club students found an organization that spoke to them and decided to make a donation. They chose Show Hope, an organization that aids in adoption and fostering through engaging the church and helping the adoption process. Our Chinese Club students have been writing cards to kids at Maria’s Big House of Hope (sponsored by Show Hope) in Luoyang, China for several years now and have built a special connection to the organization.
Our students included a letter with their gift to the co-founder of Show Hope, describing who they are and why they chose to donate the money. It reads, “Thank you so much for all of the effort that you, your family and your staff have put into Show Hope in order to provide opportunities and a good quality of life to the most vulnerable of children. We hope that we can contribute to your amazing work through this donation.”
Each member of the organization signed the letter. This project, completely organized by SBS students, is another example of our students modeling the Christlike attributes they are taught each day by faculty who are passionate about teaching and shaping young people to be future leaders for God’s kingdom. These extraordinary students are making a difference not just in their community, but worldwide.
