The Distinguished Speaker Dinner (formerly luncheon) is held each fall honoring our faculty and staff. The event serves as an outreach to the community as we include parents, grandparents, alumni and friends.
During this event, we also take the opportunity to honor an alumnus for their contributions and alumni parents for their support of Second Baptist School over the years. All proceeds from the annual event go directly to pay for Christmas gifts for Second Baptist School faculty members and salary increases in the following year.
This year we will gather on Sunday, October 24, 2021, to celebrate and thank our faculty for the incredible education they provide to our students. Our community will be blessed to hear from Distinguished Speaker Jessica Long. Jessica is one of America’s most decorated Paralympic champions, a speaker, author, advocate and sports personality. Jessica’s life has been nothing short of amazing. Born to a teenage mother in the Siberia cold, burdened by congenital defects in her legs, and placed for adoption at 13 months old, Jessica was able to persevere to become one of the most decorated female athletes in U.S. history. She overcame 25 surgeries to win 23 Paralympic medals, receive 3 ESPY awards, and be name by Sports Illustrated to The World’s Best Female Athletes. Her story is inspirational and a remarkable example of determination.
"All my life I have had to make the daily decision to keep going and to avoid giving up in difficult times. I want to encourage others to do the same. God gave me a story to share, and that is what I intend to do." - Jessica Long
