Distinguished Speaker Event
Save the Date
We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 3, 2024, to celebrate and thank our faculty for the incredible educational experience they provide for our students. Our community will hear from our Distinguished Speaker, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Fellowship with Our Engaging Community
The Distinguished Speaker Event is held each fall honoring our faculty and staff. The event serves as an outreach to the community as we include parents, grandparents, alumni and friends.
During this event, we also take the opportunity to honor an alumnus for their contributions and alumni parents for their support of Second Baptist School over the years. All proceeds from the annual event go directly to pay for Christmas bonuses for Second Baptist School faculty and staff members.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and world record-holding American sprinter and hurdler. In 2016, she made history at age 16 as the youngest US Olympian to compete in track and field since 1972 and set a junior world record in the 400m hurdles at the Olympic team trials.
McLaughlin cemented herself as a track superstar in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics by winning a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the world record with a 51.46-second time, and winning a gold medal for the 4x400-meter relay. In 2022, McLaughlin again broke the 400-meter hurdle record and won a gold medal at the Track and Field World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She ran a mind-blowing 50.68 seconds, becoming the first woman to ever run the race under 51 seconds. She has posted six of the top ten times ever in the 400-meter hurdles.
At the 2024 Olympics, she once again stunned the world by winning another gold medal and setting a new world record in the 400-meter hurdles, further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest in the sport.
McLaughlin, born in Dunellen, New Jersey, currently resides in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, Andre Levrone Jr.
