Arts

  • 5th & 6th Grade Band

    Students have their choice of instruction in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion. No experience is necessary, only the will and desire to play an instrument. The goal of this year long course is that students will learn to develop a quality characteristic sound on their instrument and develop music reading skills, as well as an understanding of musical notation, playing posture and tone production. The school is able to provide a limited number of band instruments. Fifth/sixth band will present a concert at the end of each semester.
  • 5th Grade Art

    Students learn the fundamentals through the elements of art. They learn basic drawing skills through observational line drawings, graphite self-portraits and perspective cityscapes. Students practice the basics of painting through color mixing acrylics and several watercolor techniques. In addition, students will learn about different art movements and artists throughout time. This is a project-based course designed to grow artistic skill while exposing students to many types of sculpture mediums.

  • 6th Grade Art

    Students learn basic art and design principles in the context of three-dimensional projects. Artistic skills developed include observational drawing, as well as developing proficiency in using plaster, clay and paint. In addition, students learn about different art movements and artists throughout time. This is a project-based course designed to grow artistic skill while exposing students to many types of sculpture mediums.

  • 6th Grade Band / Music - b

  • 7th/8th Grade Band

    Students who have previous experience playing a band instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba or percussion) continue learning and refining the concepts and skills taught in band class. An emphasis is placed on repertoire and reading skills. Band is a year-long course. Prerequisite: Fifth/Sixth Grade Band.
  • 7th/8th Grade Choir

    Students in choir aim to enhance vocal performance. Students learn vocal techniques and styles while gaining experience through numerous performance opportunities. Students perform a varied repertoire as individuals and as a group. This is a repeatable course.
  • 7th/8th Grade Drama

    Students experience classical and modern monologues, scene study, performance terminology, resume preparation, production terms, theatre history, musical audition choices and an end-of-semester performance where the students prepare a character analysis of the role they portray. This course exposes students to the dramatic arts and gives them the opportunity to investigate this discipline to discover and develop their talents. Through a variety of methods, students communicate in a dramatic form, make artistic choices, solve problems, build positive self-concepts and relate interpersonally.
  • 8th Grade Eagle Band

    Eagle Band develops a student’s talent and love for music through performances with a wide variety of styles of music and instruments (woodwind, brass, strings, or percussion). The band performs in many campus activities including football and basketball games, pep rallies, chapel services, and concerts. The band, as well as soloist and ensembles, competes at district and state levels. Participation in the Eagle Band is a full-year commitment.
  • Art I

    Students in Art I develop basic drawing, painting and art-making skills. This course also helps students to grow in their ability to talk about art and understand the basic historical art movements of the past. Note: Art I must be taken before a student can enroll in Art II.
  • Art II

    Students further develop the basic drawing, painting and art making skills that they learned in Art I.  As students grow in their ability to discuss art and understand the basic historical art movements of the past, they will be given more freedom and opportunity to take ownership of the art-making process in order to prepare them for further growth in upper school art. 
    Prerequisite: Art I in seventh grade.
  • Art Ops

    Students explore the world of future art opportunities, learning about creative careers through projects and play. Examples of projects include: building design as an architect, making custom invitations as a stationer, capturing subjects as a photographer, creating character looks as a costume designer and animation as a videogame designer.
  • Intro to Theatre

    Students learn basic theatrical, production, performance and stagecraft terms and techniques. This course is meant to serve as a primer to the theatrical arts and enables students to learn fundamental production concepts through instruction, expression, collaboration and performance. Additionally, students engage in creative drama and performance-based learning exercises and assignments. Non-repeatable course.
