  • 5th Grade Bible

    Students explore the gospel of John along with supplemental lessons from the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Students learn inductive study methods as well as how to use a prayer journal and a daily devotional. The overarching course goal is to better understand who Jesus is and what He has done as students personally apply God's Word to their lives. This course infuses the relevant biblical truth of John’s account into a collaborative and supportive learning environment with a focus on student spiritual understanding and growth. 
  • 6th Grade Bible

    Students study Genesis throughout the year as well as wisdom through the book of Proverbs and the Wise Up curriculum. Specific topics include: creation, the fall of humanity, the flood, the patriarchs and the covenants. Application topics include integrity, comparison, friendship, speaking words of encouragement, trusting in the Lord and forgiveness. This encouraging course challenges students to grow in their relationship with Christ through a deep and thorough understanding of God’s Word.

Students learn to read the Scriptures closely, drawing application from daily life through study and discussion. This fast-paced course utilizes a project-based approach that blends story, discussion, creativity and personal application.

  • 7th/8th Grade Christian Leadership

    Students explore a study of biblical principles and practices that inform and potentially shape us as spiritual leaders. Leaders who become progressively more conformed to the person and character of Jesus Christ. This course provides a laboratory experience for practicing leadership skills in the context of Christian worship and service. Students collaborate by participating in project based assignments designed to provide practical leadership opportunities to serve others both within and outside the Second Baptist School community.
  • 8th Grade Bible

    Students participate in an in-depth study of biblical principles and practices that shape our spiritual life and are challenged to become more devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The focus of this class is  discipleship and Christian character with an emphasis on how to make a meaningful impact on the world. The course will instill in students a vision for spiritual growth and Christian leadership with practical skills needed to carry out the mission of God to worship God, love others and make other disciples. The course is divided into sections for girls and boys to promote an atmosphere that will allow for authentic and relevant study and growth.
