This. Is. EagleFest.
One day a year, books are set aside, uniforms are replaced with face paint and team colors, and the entire student body at Second Baptist School comes together for a day of carnival games, community and competition—this is EagleFest.
As the sun rises above our campus, anticipation fills the air. Students pour out of their classrooms, excited for one of SBS’s most beloved traditions. The parade kicks off the day, beginning with the kindergarten class leading the way through the inflatable eagle onto the field. One by one, each grade follows, culminating in a heartwarming tradition–the Class of 2025 seniors walking alongside their Class of 2038 prekindergarten and Bridge buddies. After the last students enter, the games commence.
From the youngest students playing “mountains and bowls” to a down-to-the-wire hula-hooping showdown with lower school teachers, to capture the flag, tug-of-war, and potato-sack racing, game after game, class after class, the scoreboard ticked up. Blue… Gold… Blue…Gold… Blue… Blue…Blue. Cheers erupted with each win, the friendly rivalry pushing every grade to give it their all. By the end of the competition, the results were in: the BLUE team claimed the 2025 EagleFest victory.
While younger students celebrated with carnival rides, face painting and sweet treats, middle and upper school students jumped into the next round of games. Seventh and eighth grade students went head-to-head in kickball, while freshmen and sophomores competed in dodgeball. Meanwhile, juniors and seniors faced off in powderpuff games—a crowd favorite. Junior and senior boys took to the gym in an energy-filled volleyball game. With surprising skill, the senior boys quickly claimed the win over the juniors—a celebration that would last momentarily until their energy refocused on the junior and senior girls' powderpuff football game.
The junior girls came out strong, executing plays, completing passes, and putting several points on the board before the seniors could find their rhythm. However, the senior girls weren’t going down without a fight. With a late-game surge and a touchdown that reinvigorated their hopes of winning the game, the seniors narrowed the gap against the juniors. For a moment, it looked like a favorable opportunity for a senior comeback, but the juniors held steady. With one interception, the juniors sealed the win.
At Second Baptist School, EagleFest is more than a day of games. It’s a celebration of legacy, camaraderie and joy—of little hands in big ones, of friendly rivalries that bond us closer, and of memories made in the sunshine, together.
One day. One community. One unforgettable tradition. This is EagleFest.
