Teacher Feature | Ms. Martin
For 12 years, Ms. Martin has led the choir program at Second Baptist School, inspiring students to develop their singing abilities while using their talents to God’s glory. Her passion for music and teaching is evident; she reflects these passions throughout the year by leading the choir through many concerts and events.
During the Christmas season, Ms. Martin directs the choral arrangements in the Festival of Christmas and assists students who sing in Lyrics & Lattes. Hosted at Second Cup this past Friday, Lyrics & Lattes is an annual Christmas showcase where students perform festive songs, share instrumental pieces, or recite verses. Ms. Martin plays a crucial role in helping students who participate prepare for this exciting event. “My favorite part of Lyrics & Lattes is seeing the different students perform and seeing the crowd’s reactions,” Ms. Martin shared.
Ms. Martin’s love for teaching extends beyond helping students learn to sing. She views music as a gift from God and believes in helping students develop their talents as an act of worship. “Music is a gift from God, and we are supposed to develop our talents for His glory. That’s why I teach!”
In addition to leading the choir and helping students prepare for events like Lyrics & Lattes, Ms. Martin finds joy in watching her students' confidence in singing grow as they mature. Her love for choral music and her dedication to teaching have made her a special part of the SBS community.
As this year’s Lyrics & Lattes brought a cozy and cheerful start to the Christmas season, Ms. Martin and her students are also preparing for their part in the annual Festival of Christmas this Tuesday, December 10. This beloved event showcases the hard work and dedication of her students and other talented arts students, offering an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of the season through choral, instrumental, visual and theater arts.
For Ms. Martin, it's not just about the music- it's about creating moments that bring joy and remind others of God’s love.
