Teacher Feature | Mr. Brock
For Mr. Gregory Brock, teaching is a way to serve and inspire his students. His journey to becoming a bible teacher at SBS was marked by faith, perseverance, and a desire to guide students.
After a successful career in public education, Mr. Brock stepped away from the classroom in December 2020 to care for his wife, who was battling COPD. Following her passing, he was unsure of what to do next and prayed for direction. He felt called to return to teaching in a Christian environment. “I knew that God wanted me to be at Second Baptist and I just needed to be patient and wait on his timing,” Mr. Brock shared.
Mr. Brock now teaches freshman Bible, a role that brings him immense joy. “I’ve always enjoyed teaching freshmen,” he says. “The most exciting thing about teaching freshman is watching them as we dig deeper into the scriptures that are so familiar from Sunday school and their early years. It’s incredible to see their lights turn on during an ‘aha’ moment, as they understand the Word of God in a new way.”
His passion for teaching goes beyond the curriculum. He strives to help students see that God is involved in every aspect of their lives. Whether they are in the classroom, worshipping in chapel, or playing a sport, he wants them to understand that Jesus is always with them. “God is interested in everything we do,” Mr. Brock explains.
Mr. Brock’s journey to Second Baptist has been one of faith and obedience. “In all my years in education, this is the most fun and excitement I have had teaching students, especially teaching about God and His Word.”
