Teacher Feature | Dr. Parrino

A recent addition to Second Baptist School, Dr. Parrino came from New York bringing with him a passion for faith and science. Dr. Parrino expressed that God moved him and his family to focus on SBS, captivated by a community where “faith in Jesus Christ, and spreading that faith, is held in the highest regard” by every educator. With this alignment of faith and purpose, Dr. Parrino felt that SBS was the perfect place to make an impact.

One of the highlights of Dr. Parrino’s new role is his access to the newly completed sixth floor, which opened to the students for the first time on Monday, November 11. This detailed project has brought about state-of-the-art facilities for students. Reflecting on the privilege Dr. Parrino shared “I feel like I have ‘reaped what I have not sown,’” quoting a verse that captures his gratitude for the foundation laid by those who came before him. Starting this week, he has a new classroom that is fully equipped with cutting-edge technology, from multiple display and demonstration cameras to the highly anticipated anatomage table, a professional grade teaching tool that offers digital human cadavers where students can learn on 3-D models.

Dr. Parrino is especially enthusiastic about the unique aspects of the Introduction to Medical Science class, which is the first of its kind at Second Baptist. Designed in collaboration with the administration and anesthesiologist Dr. Wegner, this course breaks new ground, aiming to prepare students for a future in medicine while also emphasizing Christian values. Without a standardized model to follow, Dr. Parrino has been able to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for SBS students. Through thoughtful planning and collaboration, he has developed a custom curriculum that combines hands-on experiences with a speaker-focused approach– bringing in experts to inspire, educate, and prepare students for a career in the medical field.

This inaugural year marks an exciting milestone for both SBS and Dr. Parrino’s students. Through this new course, Dr. Parrino is helping to develop future Christian leaders in the medical field, combining his passion for faith and science. With each lesson, he is preparing students not only for careers in medicine but also for a life guided by purpose and service.
