Spring Swing Hits It Out of the Park!
506 people. One game. A record crowd at Michael Stephens baseball field. Fans filled the bleachers and even settled on the walkways until the only remaining option was to stand along the fence. Eventually, those spots are filled, too. Inning after inning, the student section brought relentless energy to the atmosphere—cheering on the Eagles and, at times, taunting the visiting team. Even after the sun set and the field lights flickered on, the spirit from the stands never dwindled. This is Spring Swing at Second Baptist School.
The day kicked off with varsity cheerleaders greeting lower school students at morning carpool, followed by high school athletes signing autographs during lunch. Later, the entire school gathered in the E Gym for a USA-themed pep rally featuring routines from the Golden Girls and cheerleaders—and, of course, the highly anticipated senior guys' dance performance.
That afternoon, the community gathered to support the junior varsity baseball and softball teams despite looming storm clouds. However, Houston’s unpredictable weather took a turn. The skies cleared, and lower and middle school students played on the green as the games continued. By 7 p.m., fans made their way from the food trucks to the baseball field and cheered the varsity baseball team on to victory.
“We played a fun team with a good pitcher, and we ended up winning 6-1 that night,” Wes Baker ‘25 said. “The student section was really awesome—they were chirping the other team. It brought a lot of extra energy to the guys in the dugout and on the field and made the game intense and fun at the same time.”
