SBS Basketball Tournament Classic at Damien High School
During our recent Christmas break, the varsity men’s basketball team participated in a 64-team tournament with some of the top teams from California. The Eagles competed at the highest level against some of the best schools in the country and proved their skill on the court, while also using the opportunity to grow and develop the skills that they believe will take them far this season.
“It was a first-class tournament. The players and coaches were treated extremely well by host Damien High School,” said SBS parent Jack Shoemaker. “The players conducted themselves as gentlemen and were great examples of the school they represent.”
Our Eagles played four top teams, including host Damien High School. Each of the games challenged our players defensively and offensively, helping them become stronger players each time.
“In game four, SBS beat Notre Dame Riverside 64-58,” said Shoemaker. “The team got out to a fast start and led most of the way. It was a great way to end the trip.”
In addition to the team victory, individual player Cameron Cohn ’19 was named to the Platinum Division All-Tournament Team.
During their time away from the court, the team enjoyed bonding experiences such as visiting the beach, enjoying lunch and time together to prepare for the tournament.
Shoemaker said about the trip, “It was a great experience to grow as a team, to go up against many players that will compete at the next level, to highlight the SBS basketball program and to build memories with teammates and friends.”
