Presenting the Distinguished Speaker Dinner

Presenting the Distinguished Speaker Dinner

After 14 years of the annual Distinguished Speaker Luncheon, this year’s 15th annual event will take on a slightly different name and be enjoyed in the form of a virtual dinner. For the first time, Second Baptist School’s Distinguished Speaker Dinner will take place in the homes of our community members. These hosts have the opportunity to invite up to ten (10) guests into their home to enjoy a delicious dinner from Taste of Texas. There are several options available to become an underwriter and host a dinner. For more information on becoming an underwriter, click here. This year’s print deadline for underwriting is October 2.

During this dinner, guests will gain access to the event program video to enjoy all the traditional elements of our Distinguished Speaker event. This video will include remarks from Head of School Dr. Don Davis, our Distinguished Speaker Dinner Chairmen, Kimberly and Ryan Roth and Lisa and Eric Elder, Distinguished Alumni Carlie Zumwalt ‘04, Distinguished Alumni Parents Kelly and Michael Boyd and our Distinguished Speaker Willie Robertson.

Robertson, an American television personality, businessman and author, is best known for his appearances in the reality series “Duck Dynasty,” and is the current CEO of Duck Commander. Robertson is known for his Christian faith and how he uses faith to lead his family.

Carlie Zumwalt '04, a NASA aerospace engineer at Langley in Virginia, is this year’s outstanding Distinguished Alumna. Carlie does programming for entry, descent and landing of space missions and is a key player in the effort to land the first human on Mars.

Kelly and Michael Boyd are the proud parents of Emily Boyd Hammett ‘10 and Caroline Boyd ‘13. Kelly and Michael served in various leadership roles during their time as SBS parents. Their support of SBS continues through their generosity to the school and faithful prayers for its faculty and staff.

Now more than ever, gathering as a community to honor our teachers, is of the utmost importance. The purpose of the Distinguished Speaker event each fall is to raise money for Christmas bonuses and salary increases for the faculty and staff of Second Baptist School. Our teachers and staff are the backbone of Second Baptist School, and we have them to thank for keeping our students together, educated and loved both on-campus and virtually. In addition, we’d like to extend a special thank you to this year’s Distinguished Speaker Chairmen and the Office of Advancement for their flexibility and creativity as they work hard to prioritize this new and exciting dinner.

Tickets giving you and your family access to the program link become available to the public on October 2. This year’s Distinguished Speaker Dinner is sure to be one you won’t want to miss. Be on the lookout for more information coming to your mailbox soon. We hope you make plans to participate!
