Pausing for Gratitude

Pausing for Gratitude

The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break are often marked by restlessness and urgency. Whether wrapping up final projects and tests, pushing through the last bit of makeup work, or staying up late for soccer and basketball games, most people finish the week feeling more than ready for a time of rest. In the midst of this season of hurried thankfulness, I find myself reflecting on my journey at Second Baptist, the school that has played a defining role in shaping me into who I am today.

I vividly remember my first day of eighth grade as a new student at SBS. Walking through the doors of Woodway Village, I felt unsure of myself and extremely overwhelmed by the unknown that lay ahead. Now, as the first semester of my senior year begins to unwind, I can honestly say that I am prepared to step into my future beyond these hallways because this school has equipped me with confidence, wisdom, and valuable leadership skills.

Second Baptist has challenged me both academically and spiritually. Although the material is demanding and homework sometimes seems never-ending, my teachers are constant, encouraging, and kind, and I trust that they have my best in mind. Each and every one of them has modeled patience, selflessness, and reliability, and their love for Christ has made a lasting impact on my life. I truly cannot thank my teachers enough for the examples they have set for me and my classmates.

Second Baptist has given me the courage to lead with boldness. Again and again, whether through participation in the Fellows program, sports teams, or yearbook, the school has provided me with opportunities to use my voice and strengthen the gifts God has given me. This environment is unique and one that should not be taken for granted. So, as Thanksgiving approaches, I am filled with thankfulness for a school that strives for excellence in all areas and values Christ and His Word above all else. Second Baptist is a gift to me and a blessing to my community. Second Baptist is home.
