Our SBS

Our SBS

From the moment I walked into [the lower school] as a five-year-old, a trust was founded and built day by day. Second Baptist is where I discovered and established my relationship with God. It is where I raised my flag for Christ and allowed Him to enter my heart. It is where I continue to grow my relationship with Christ.

Head Fellow Andrea Colchado ‘25

On the first day of the 2023-2024 school year, Head Fellow Andrea Colchado ‘25 and Head Prefect Ellie Veeningen ‘24 shared their “why.” “We all have one,” said Andrea, a reason for joining the Second Baptist School family, interwoven with God’s divine purpose.

“SBS is a community first, and a school second,” said Ellie as she addressed the entire student body, faculty, staff and family members during Convocation.

Head of School Dr. Don Davis proceeded to outline the theme for the school year: Our SBS. “Together, we must own the mission of Second Baptist School.” He shared the verse of the year, Philippians 2:2 “Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Dr. Davis called the SBS community to “think with one mind, live with one heart and lead with one purpose,” as we pursue our mission to think critically, live biblically and lead courageously for Jesus Christ.

We have much to celebrate this year, from a new Children’s Building to unprecedented giving and the opening of the School of Business. The Lord is at work in our midst. “In Our SBS, we build community together – where we care and support one another, rejoice with one another and mourn with one another,” Dr. Davis passionately declared.

Joshua 1:9 reads, “Do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Elle Veeningen ended her Convocation speech with a powerful statement to embolden us this next school year: “God is before you, and your SBS family is behind you.”
