I'm a Believer!

I'm a Believer!

Fourth graders had audience members listening to classic 70s hits in a new way, with spinoffs of great songs like “Bad to the Bone” and “Stayin’ Alive” sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Stunning technicolor sets and plenty of rainbow tie-dye made this year’s Jesus Freak program stand out!

Head of School Dr. Don Davis introduced the program, explaining the history behind the gospel-centered show. Jesus Freak was written twenty years ago (in 2002) by our Lower School Bible teacher Dianna Bolling. Mrs. Bolling said, “The school called and asked if I would be willing to write something to reflect the fourth grade Bible curriculum. Klare Bambrick, a lower school Bible teacher at the time, wrote it with me.”

“We want to make sure our students know Jesus and achieve their divine potential,” said Dr. Don Davis. “God’s word is as true today as it was in Bible times.” Fourth grade students delivered the gospel message through song, dance and storytelling. They emphasized the importance of not just knowing about Jesus, but truly knowing Him personally as Lord and Savior.

Bible teacher Dianna Bolling said this special program “flows out of what we learn in class.” From Genesis through Acts, students share the scriptural teaching they have absorbed all year long. “Our goal was to share the gospel not only with our students, but also with the parents and grandparents in the audience. We prayed that Jesus Freak would present the good news of Jesus with boldness and clarity.”

At the end of the program, Head of Lower School Rita Herring addressed the fourth graders, praising them for their excellent performance and encouraging them as they move into the next phase of their school careers. She shared Hebrews 12:1, reminding the students, “Your teachers and parents are the clouds of witnesses around you, and the race before you is middle school.”

Mrs. Herring concluded the program, saying, “The mission of Second Baptist School is to equip you to think critically, live biblically and lead courageously to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Fourth grade, you have done that today!”

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
