Fourth Grade Brings the Gospel to Life | Jesus Freak 2025

“I’m a Believer.” “Bad to the Bone.” “Stayin' Alive.” While these titles bring back memories of pop hits from the ‘70s and ‘80s, to fourth grade students at Second Baptist School, they are the perfect soundtrack for sharing the gospel. Jesus Freak, a long-standing and much-loved tradition at SBS, leads the audience on a gospel journey filled with singing, dancing, and a little disco flair!

Dressed in tie-dye, the Class of 2033 brought the story to life as “Baby Jesus Freak,” played by Ava Drum, searches for answers about faith. Along the way, she meets early believers, including Peter, Paul and James, and learns how their stories point to Jesus. Whether dancing in their  “Gospel Shoes” or belting out “Bad to the Bone,” the message was clear: knowing Jesus changes everything.

But this tradition is more than just a show—it is a moment of spiritual growth. Every song, solo, and scripture reading gave students the chance to connect what they’ve learned in class with personal faith. For many, it’s their first time to boldly speak—or sing—about what they believe, echoing Baby Jesus Freak’s heartfelt prayer to be God’s “hands and feet to this world so others will believe too”.

With unforgettable characters like the gospel-singing Einstein and crowd-favorite roles like “Grapes,” the performance was a colorful and energetic display of creativity and growing gospel understanding. Jesus Freak brought truth to life with imagination and joy.

By the final chorus, the audience wasn’t just applauding the performance—they were celebrating the gospel message. Jesus Freak is a powerful reminder that no one is too young to live out their faith with joy, purpose and courage.
