Fall Sports -- A Thrilling Season
What a fall season it has been! The Eagles have soared in the playoffs with both volleyball and football teams making it to the final four and cross country coming away with a top ten medal in the state.
According to Director of Athletics Mike Walker, this has been one of the most exciting and successful seasons in school history. “Our teams accomplished many victories on and off the field. I am proud of our coaches and athletes and the work they put in to represent SBS in athletic competition. God brought us some exceptional coaches who created an environment where student athletes worked hard, played together and demonstrated what it means to be an Eagle.” Walker adds, “Thank you to our SBS community for supporting our teams -- what a great time to be an Eagle.”
Football
After a successful fall season, our SBS football team is moving forward to face Dallas Christian at Waco ISD Stadium in the Division II State Championship game, the first trip to the finals since winning a state title in 1999. We are ready to cheer the Eagles on to victory!
“I’m excited for the whole team, especially the seniors,” said Head Football Coach Terry Pirtle. “They’ve come so close to a state title, reaching the semifinals four years in a row. This season, they played some tough games, which strengthened them.” He added, “Our defense is amazing. They’re well-coached by our defensive staff, and they play hard.”

“The highlight of the fall season was making it to the state tournament. It was such a happy, energetic moment for the team when all our hard work paid off,” said senior Julia Sauvageau. “We really learned how to trust each other and believe that we could be the best. This whole season was a learning experience, and it was so worth it in the end.”
Alexis Gill ‘22 agreed, “Playoffs were a highlight of the season. Our team learned that you could accomplish anything if you put your mind to it.”
Chandace Tryon commented on the season, “We had an amazing season, and I’m proud of the team for fighting hard to get better every single day - not just physically, but mentally as well. Winning over 30 games and making it to the state tournament doesn’t happen without the commitment to excellence that our players had.”
Cross Country
The cross country team performed well this fall, leading to a trip to the TAPPS state meet, which coach Daniel Scoggins says was one of the highlights of the season. The team finished third as a team in district with CJ Hobbs ‘23 winning the District Championship followed by securing eighth place in state.
Sophomore Lauren Baker, also had several top 5 finishes. She said this season she learned “what it means to be a leader and how to lead others well.” For example, “Leading warmups before meets and practices helped me develop leadership and accountability.”
