Faith over Fear: Middle School In Focus Week

Faith over Fear: Middle School In Focus Week

Excited chatter and laughter filled the halls of Woodway Village as middle school students gathered together for the first day of In Focus week. Led by Second Baptist Church’s student ministry, In Focus week invites students to step away from the rhythms of the school day and spend intentional time in worship and fellowship.

Each afternoon began with high-energy games that brought students together, followed by worship and a devotional message. This year’s theme, Faith over Fear, encouraged students to face challenges with confidence rooted in God’s promises, trusting Him even when circumstances feel uncertain.

Throughout the week, speakers challenged students to consider how fear can shape their choices and how faith in Christ offers a steadier foundation. Worship and teaching emphasized that while challenges will come, God remains faithful and present, calling students to trust Him fully.

As the week drew to a close, Assistant Head of Middle School Craig Brockhan reflected on Paul’s words in Romans 8:31, "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?” Brockhan shared his prayer that students would leave In Focus with a deeper, heart-level understanding that Jesus Christ has overcome the world and their hope is secure in Him.

In Focus week concluded with a time of celebration and reflection, marking the meaningful decisions of students who gave their lives to Christ. A yearly tradition for SBS middle schoolers, this week reflects the passion of our school: “to bring every student into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ while equipping them to do with excellence that which God has called them to do.”
