Deep in the Heart of Texas

Deep in the Heart of Texas

Little cowboys and cowgirls donned in boots, hats and gingham paraded around the E Gym in an adorable display of Texas pride. This treasured tradition at SBS features pre-kindergarten and Bridge students showing their knowledge of the Lone Star State and performing a Texas themed program for parents, grandparents and special guests alike.

From “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” to the “Cowboy’s Prayer” to “She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain,” guests were awed and entertained by the cowpokes and their fun Texas facts. Did you know Texas comes from the word Tejas, which means friendship?

“The purpose of the Hoedown is to capture the spirit of our rich Texas heritage,” said Lower School Music Teacher Maryanne Elders. “The timing is always right in line with Houston's Livestock Show and Rodeo.” She continued, saying, “This program has been going on for close to 30 years. Several of our students' parents were in the Hoedown themselves, so it is now crossing generations!”
