Courageous Service

Courageous Service

By Communications Fellow Avery Bodine '25

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness.
Psalm 100:1

In front of fifth grade students and dressed in a beautiful green Indian sari, senior Caroline Lane shared her personal testimony and experiences, which she gained while on a mission trip to India. Becoming a part of the organization As Our Own, Caroline Lane courageously made the decision to devote her time to travel across the world this past summer to spend time with young girls in an underprivileged and unsafe environment. Living in a safe haven created by As Our Own, the girls are given a Christian education, a rare privilege because of Indian policies.

During her mission trip, Caroline and other organization members, including Caroline Marshall ‘23, Kennedy Brown ‘23, Ethan Brown ‘21 and Braden Brown ‘25, led worship, prayed with, and enjoyed arts and crafts with the young girls. Caroline shared that she admired the girls' unwavering faith and joy in the Lord during times of worship, which brought God's light into their otherwise dark environment.

When Caroline and the group left the camp, even in their exhaustion, they felt more incredibly full of the joy of the Lord than when they first came. They knew that, however brief their time was in India, their impact was positive for both them and the girls they served.

When SBS student leaders like Caroline share their passion for service, they further the mission of Second Baptist School and inspire one another to live biblically.
