Class of 2029: Stronger Together

Class of 2029: Stronger Together

Freshman Retreat was an incredible experience for everyone involved, giving the freshman class the opportunity to bond and grow in their faith in Jesus.

The freshmen participated in a variety of activities. Senior Mac Northrup, Service Prefect, joined the other prefects and senior fellows to lead a game designed to surprise the freshmen with something unforgettable and challenging. Using cow tongues in a round of capture the flag, the leaders created a unique experience that initially disgusted the freshmen but quickly turned into a memorable lesson in teamwork. The students learned to push through their hesitation, rely on one another, and work together to reach their goal. Another highlight of the retreat was worship, a powerful and moving time led by Coach Zack Heaton '17.

Service was also a major part of the retreat, especially meaningful to Mac in his role as Service Prefect. Many freshmen demonstrated what it means to be servant leaders by picking up trash, helping each other, and showing a willingness to serve without recognition. “Service is at the heart of what it means to follow Christ, and I loved seeing the freshmen step into that so naturally,” Mac said. He added, “Mark 10:45 reminds us that Jesus came not to be served but to serve, and Galatians 2 teaches that our actions are not for our own glory. The freshmen clearly embraced the truth that service is central to following Christ.”

The retreat gave the Class of 2029 a strong foundation for their high school years. “I believe they will continue to reflect Christ in meaningful ways, and I look forward to seeing all that God will do through them,” Mac said.
