Class of 2027 Senior Retreat: A joyful celebration of the year to come!

Following the start of a new school year, during the first full week of school, the newly instated senior class of Second Baptist is sent on the annual Senior Retreat. The class of 2027 boarded the buses on Wednesday morning and took a trip to Stoney Creek Ranch which they had previously visited for their Freshman Retreat. Over the course of the next day and a half, the seniors would meet together, pray together, and enjoy free time together as they bond over the beginning of their last year of high school. 

From swimming in the pool to building race cars and staring at the starry night sky, each senior was able to learn about what it truly means to close one season of life while opening a brand new one. Adding to this idea, senior Micah Nini reflected that it is important “to remember the small moments because time goes by fast in high school.” 

During one of the breakout sessions, Coach Cooper emphasized the importance of staying connected to Christ as each senior starts their own personal and more independent journey. He connected this challenge with this year’s theme verse, John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” Coach Cooper’s message was especially sentimental as his first year of teaching at Second Baptist was the Class of 2027’s first year in high school. He reflected on the gift it has been to “celebrate the four years” with the class as he has seen them “grow spiritually and emotionally” while staying close to one another. 

For both freshmen and seniors, Second Baptist’s high school retreats provide time for growth and connection as students and faculty are able to start the school year with fresh mindsets and renewed heart postures. This year’s Senior Retreat was especially joy-filled as each individual was able to look forward to the school year with anticipation and excitement for the things to come!
