Class of 2025 Senior Retreat: A Journey of Faith, Fun and Reflection

Class of 2025 Senior Retreat: A Journey of Faith, Fun and Reflection

For over three decades, the Senior Retreat has been a cherished SBS annual tradition, and this year's retreat did not disappoint. Held for the first time at Jordan Ranch in Schulenberg, the retreat offered the Class of 2025 an opportunity to reflect on their school journey and prepare to take on the mantle of leadership during their final year of school.

Coach Lane kicked off the retreat with a session on Acts 8, emphasizing that listening to God's instruction, even when engaged in another godly task, can have profound effects.

Another beloved tradition at the retreat is the distribution of encouraging letters from parents, close family, and friends the seniors receive—words they can hold close in the days and years to come. Communications Fellow Lillian Baker reflected on this special moment: “My favorite part of senior retreat was reading the letters from our parents. It was such a sweet surprise, and the letters are definitely something I will hold onto for a long, long time.”

After taking time to quietly reflect and absorb the letters, students gathered around the campfire for worship. The night concluded with science teacher Geoff Brooks leading a special “Under the Stars” session, where he prayed for each student by name as they gazed at the night sky. Ministry Prefect Dylan Jenkins '25 shared, “The worship night under the stars was my favorite part of the senior retreat. It created a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere that deepened our connections with each other.”

The following morning began brightly with a devotional session led by senior Bible teacher Oscar Villanueva. His inspiring message resonated deeply with students, emphasizing the spiritual renewal essential for a purposeful life. Coach Beck Brydon challenged students: “In a year of important decision-making, the most profound decision a senior can make is this—what do you believe (about reality) and why do you believe it?” This question encouraged students to identify their worldview and the reasons behind it, emphasizing the importance of knowing the why behind their personal convictions.

Communications Fellow Brooke Sems shared her reflections on the retreat: “It lets me take a moment from school to spend time with my friends and listen to speakers talk about how rooting yourself in Christ is so important because it will impact which path you follow in college, whether it be in God or the things of the world. Spending time with my friends and realizing that these are our last days together made me feel ready to take on the upcoming year at SBS and equipped me for the years to come when I leave the comfort of SBS.”
