Celebrating the Fall Sports Season
Second Baptist School athletics experienced another incredible fall season, with victories on and off the field and court. When students not only celebrate team victories but also set personal records, break school records and earn spots on collegiate teams, it’s clear excellence is at the forefront of all things athletics.
Director of Athletics Mike Walker reflected on the fall season. “I have the unique privilege of getting a front-row seat to the accomplishments of our teams and athletes,” he described. “I've been on the sidelines for every varsity football game and watched our team rise to the occasion and win the District Championship with a perfect 5-0 record. I was present when our varsity cross-country team placed among the top runners in the state at both the district and state level. I watched our talented cheerleaders and dancers perform at both pep rallies and at halftime. I saw our varsity volleyball team overcome adversity and win a district tie-breaker game and earn a berth in the state playoffs.”
He continued, “God has blessed Second Baptist School with incredible coaches, athletes, trainers and support staff. Success on the field is certainly rewarding, and how incredible was it to congratulate our six senior athletes who signed this November to compete in college athletics?” Truly, it has been an inspiring season for the families, athletes and spirited community at SBS.
Football
“Our coaching staff is so proud of our players and the season they had,” said Interim Head Football Coach Tony Levine. “Winning our district championship and reaching the state semi-final game showed the heart and character of our team. It was truly an honor and privilege to coach these young men, and the bonds and memories they created will last a lifetime."

Volleyball
The volleyball team chose part of the SBS mission as their theme for this season: pursuit of excellence. Head Coach Chandace Tryon commented, “I feel that the girls in our program pursued excellence every single day. It’s always fun to watch a team win games throughout the season, but I was most pleased with each athlete’s desire to seek excellence in non-physical ways such as being a good teammate, holding each other accountable and respecting their opponents. I felt that focusing on those areas of the game helped us to succeed and make a strong playoff run.”

The cross-country team also celebrated a college commitment from talented senior runner CJ Hobbs, who plans to run for Dallas Baptist University next fall.
Head Coach Dr. Chris Hobbs shared, “Our SBS community should be proud of how committed this cross-country team is to training and representing our school. These athletes are as tough as they come and relentlessly consistent.”
