Celebrating Christmas with the Arts
Joyful sounds and sights have filled the halls of Second Baptist School as anticipation for Christmas grows! The Arts rings in the Christmas season showcasing three annual events: Lyrics & Lattes, Festival of Christmas and the Winter Art Show. These beloved traditions brought our community together in celebration of artistry and the gift of our Savior.
Lyrics and Lattes: A Day Filled with Music and Merriment
With hot chocolate in hand, parents, grandparents, faculty and staff gathered together to enjoy a festive showcase of student talents, from singing to piano to dancing. Art Fellows Vivian Wise ‘26, Nic Schweers ‘26 and Charis Chambers ‘26 welcomed attendees to the event and and the first performers to the stage– Christopher Key ’26 and Brayden Harrison’s performance of Hallelujah, Syriah ’26 and Isobel Debakey’s ’25 duet of Winter Wonderland and Henry Going’s ’27 nostalgic piano solo of Linus & Lucy kicked off the event with beloved classics. The Golden Girls performed a routine to the Jonas Brothers’ Like It’s Christmas, Anastasia Rowlen ’25 and Gray Gilbert ’25 sang Baby, It’s Cold Outside and Mila Veenigen ’27 and Georgia Northrup ’28 brought the festive energy with Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. Erin McCleary ’28 and Ella Farias ’25 captivated the attendees with their solos: O Holy Night and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Crowd favorites included the sophomore quartet’s rendition of Mistletoe and the senior girls dancing to Jingle Bell Rock. Closing the event, Ethan Chan’s piano solo of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and Kambell Krites ’25, Jacqueline Lunsford ’25 and Emma Hodges’ ’25 rendition of Do You Hear What I Hear celebrated the joy of the season, leaving attendees inspired by the confidence and God-given talents of each performer.
Festival of Christmas: A Showcase of Musical Excellence
The Festival of Christmas is a season favorite for the Arts at Second Baptist School- featuring middle and upper school choir and theatre students, this event is the perfect introduction to the Christmas season. The Vision Choir’s rendition of Carol of the Bells set the tone, followed by middle school students performing a Christmas melody with chimes. From cherished choral favorites, I’ll be Home for Christmas and O Holy Night with senior soloists Brayden Harrison ‘25 and Ella Farias ‘25, to new performances including the Little Drummer Boy featuring drum soloist Reed Baker ‘28, this evening truly underscored the beauty of students using their talents as an act of worship. All choir and theatre students joined together for the finale, Peace, Peace, inviting the audience to sing along and share in worship and the spirit of the Christmas season.
Winter Art Show: A Visual Celebration
The Winter Art Show showcased the incredible creativity of SBS middle and upper school artists, highlighting their God-given talents. From intricate drawings to bold paintings and sculptures, the gallery reflected a wide range of artistic styles and visions. AP Art students shared their focus pieces from the semester, featuring impressive artwork by Nate King ‘25, Presley Townsend ‘25, Kyleigh Flemming ‘25, Jake Miers ‘25 and Emilia Tarasiuk ‘26. Each piece highlighted the students’ technical skill and personal interest, drawing admiration from attendees and reinforcing the strength of the SBS Arts.

Moments to pause during a busy Christmas remind us why we celebrate. As we gather to appreciate the incredible talents God has gifted students with, we are ultimately reminded of the greatest gift– Christ’s humility and grace in coming to earth to save us. May we carry this truth in our hearts, celebrating this season with joyful songs, meaningful worship and gratitude for the Savior who was born to redeem us!
