Chris Duncan '09 Encourages Incoming Freshman Students
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
“No more uniforms!” chants were shouted through the breezeway after the eighth graders recessed from the Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony. The day was full of joy, as students, parents and teachers celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2018.
SBS alumni Chris Duncan ’09 was this year’s special speaker. Chris began his journey at SBS in Mrs. Ramey’s fourth grade class. He graduated in 2009 with the highest distinction of summa cum laude and went on to attend Baylor University where he studied mechanical engineering and mathematics. He currently serves as a project controls specialist at Gulf Interstate Engineering.
During his speech, Chris reflected on his time at SBS and emphasized the importance of being involved. He encouraged the eighth graders to get involved and find their passion, as these next four years will be what they make them. He charged them to live with integrity, and hold 1 Timothy 4:12 close to heart, saying “whatever you are being called to do, go after it.” He closed with saying “integrity is something that takes a lifetime to build up, but only a moment to breakdown” reminding them to stay true to themselves and honor God in all they do.
