The SBS College Guidance program seeks to enable students to make educated and reasoned choices in the college selection process. This four-year process necessitates open communication and mutual support for the student by the parents and counselors as they collectively seek the best match for each graduate.

LAYING THE CORNERSTONE

SBS college guidance begins in the eighth grade as counselors advise students on course selection and extracurricular activities to assure a strong upper-school education.

BUILDING THE FOUNDATION

Each year counselors interact with students through a variety of activities designed to encourage reflection and discernment in personal and educational choices: Freshman and Senior Retreats, annual on-campus college fairs, in- and out-of-state college tours, student application workshops, and student/family conferences.

BLUEPRINT FOR SUCCESS

Counselors meet with each junior student and family to develop a list of schools that complements the student’s interests and talents: academic strengths, extracurricular programs, support facilities, geographic location, size, and cost. As students begin their senior year, the college guidance staff assists them in completing their applications and counsels them through the selection process.
