A SCHOOL FOR LEADERS - values, service, learning and community – these characteristics exemplify the spirit of the SBS experience and the legacy forged by students, faculty, parents and alumni.
VALUES – SBS remains committed to the training of students in areas of values and knowledge that will allow them to understand clearly, to think deeply, to judge wisely, and to have the courage to live their lives on the great principles and convictions of biblical truth as they engage an innovative and digitally-based global community.
SERVICE – SBS students perform over 10,000 hours of community service a year throughout the city of Houston. From cleaning up area parks and helping with recovery efforts after Hurricane Ike to making blankets and distributing them at local nursing homes and children’s hospitals, SBS students truly know what it means to give back.
LEARNING - The School's commitment to excellence is reflected through the research findings conducted by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI). According to the partnering organizations, "independent school graduates are committed to achievement. They have high educational aspirations and work hard to achieve their goals." Over the years, SBS students have demonstrated a commitment to excellence. Over the last five years, they have been accepted to an array of impressive universities including Yale, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Virginia, Washington and Lee, Columbia, Vassar and leading Texas universities. SBS students have a burning desire to acquire knowledge for the sake of learning, not just for earning a good grade, winning a state championship, or performing perfectly on stage.
COMMUNITY - One of the greatest blessings of Second Baptist School is a community of relationships that last forever. Community has been at the heart of each aspect of the School’s existence. From the Distinguished Speaker Luncheon to EagleFest to the Middle and Upper School musicals, a spirit of community is evident and contagious. Strong, vital parent volunteerism has added to the success of this SBS community through the combined efforts of the Parents Association, Friends of the Fine Arts, and Eagle Athletic Booster Club.
The administrative staff, faculty, students, and parents will continue our shared endeavor to make SBS the most effective Christian college preparatory program in the world. Thank you for partnering with us.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeff D. Williams Head of School |
