Choir begins in middle school as an elective course that allows students the opportunity to experience vocal music. Vision Choir is made up of an astounding one third of the upper school students. All students with a variety of interests can be seen on stage performing side by side in this large ensemble. The Masterworks Concert, Festival of Christmas and spring concerts are just a few of the opportunities to hear the Vision Choir. SBS choir students participate in TPSME, Texas Private School Music Educators and TMEA, Texas Music Educators Association contests and events as well as other local and state competitions.
Teaching students how to play and make music is the driving force for the Second Baptist School Instrumental Music Department. Developing the musicianship of the individual student is the foundation of the curriculum. Beginner Band is open to fifth grade students who are interested in learning to play a band instrument (flute. clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion). Intermediate Band is open to sixth and seventh grade students that have completed 1-2 years of previous band experience. Eagle Band open to eighth through twelfth grade students that have at least 3 years of previous band experience.
