Childhood should be a time when curiosity is a part of every day experiences and creativity is encouraged in every way. Through an innovative interdisciplinary approach, we enhance students’ prior knowledge to make connections to real life in the midst of learning new concepts. Not only do students exceed content mastery due to having such high expectations of what students are able to learn, they have fun in the process, sometimes not even recognizing that they are indeed learning. Projects and individualized authentic assessments make up much of the Lower School scope and sequence in all subject areas. Experiencing the world around them, as well as the world at large, with hands-on approaches, technology, literature, and energetic play allows children to grow in depth academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. More than anything, each child at SBS will experience first hand God’s love through each teacher they have.
