 | Early Childhood Program - Soaring Eagles The Soaring Eagles Program is a half-day Lower School class providing instruction and activities to prepare the young four-year-old to attend SBS Pre-Kindergarten or Bridge the following year. Students are required to attend four days a week (Monday-Thursday) 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. with an optional Friday activity day. The program is designed to create self-motivated, responsible learners within a developmentally appropriate curriculum, enhancing the spiritual, social, intellectual and physical development of each child.

 Early Childhood Program - Pre-Kindergarten The SBS Pre-Kindergarten Program is a half-day program that is designed to create self-motivated, responsible learners within a developmentally appropriate curriculum. It is a program that enhances the spiritual, social, intellectual and physical development of each child. Students participate in opening exercises of the school where pledges are given to the United States flag, the Christian flag and the Bible. In each Pre-Kindergarten classroom, there are five basic learning stations, including home-living, blocks, library, math and art. Outside play and snack time are two daily activities where social skills are developed. Communication with parents is kept open through a daily take home folder and a weekly newsletter. Regular conferences are available to parents. |

 Early Childhood Program - Bridge The Second Baptist School Bridge Program is just that - a bridge between our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs. Bridge is an appropriate program for those students needing an additional year for social and emotional growth. Students in this half-day program will focus on Social Studies, Science, Math, Language Arts and Bible. Bridge students attend Chapel, Motor Skills and Music with Pre-Kindergarten.

 Kindergarten Kindergarten is a full-day program and is a natural extension of the Pre-Kindergarten program. The program further develops spiritual, intellectual, physical and social growth. The integrated curriculum centers on themes such as insects, the five senses, food and nutrition, rocks, dinosaurs and the ocean. Students begin the year by exploring themselves and progress through the months exploring the world and how it relates to them. Students participate in opening exercises of the school where pledges are given to the United States flag, the Christian flag and the Bible. Daily outside play is an activity where social skills are developed and emphasized. Communication with parents is kept open through a daily take home folder and a weekly newsletter.  Grades 1-4 In Grades 1-4 Second Baptist School strives to develop strong readers, review and refine skills, build on the student's self esteem and help them to become independent, organized and responsible learners. Students study Mathematics, Language Arts, Handwriting, Reading, Social Studies and Spelling. Activity classes include Art, Bible, Computer, Enrichment, Library, Music, Science and Physical Education.

 Age Requirements Applicants for the Early Childhood Program must be 4 years of age by September 1, 2012 to be considered for admission.
Applicants for Kindergarten must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2012 to be considered for admission.

Step 1 - Application for AdmissionPlease complete the Online Inquiry first. After the Online Inquiry is complete, please print the Lower School Application for Admissions (top right). Detailed instructions are included in the application, as well as the required forms needed to complete the application. The Priority Application Deadline is Friday, January 20, 2012. |

 | Step 2 - Academics Grade specific transcript requests and teacher recommedation may be submitted to your student's current school after December 1, 2011. The required forms are included in the Application for Admission. They are due to the Office of Admissions by January 15, 2012.

 | Step 3 - Testing and Group Evaluations Admissions testing is required for all applicants to Second Baptist School. The Application for Admission provides specific details for scheduling appropriate testing. Group Evaluations for all applicants will be held on the Second Baptist School campus in January and February 2012. Early Childhood Program (Soaring Eagles, Pre-Kindergarten and Bridge) applicants will receive an email the first week in February about Group Evaluation date and location. Applicants for Kindergarten through Grade 4 with completed files may register for a group evaluation date through the Candidate Portal (login required). |

Visiting the Lower School Open House Second Baptist Lower School hosts an Open House for prospective families interested in applying for the Early Learning Program (Soaring Eagles, Pre-Kindergarten and Bridge) through Grade 4. This year, the event will take place on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 8:30 a.m. in the Deacons’ Parlor (E Building) with a program and tour. Parents only, please.  Group Tours For families who can not attend the Lower School Open House, we offer group tours for Pre-Kindergarten and Bridge as well as Grades K-4. To participate in a group tour, click here to register for one of the dates. |

 Private Tours For families visiting from out of town or for those that could not attend group tours or the Lower School Open House, we offer private tours. To schedule a private tour, please complete the Online Inquiry and make a note in the “Comments” section with the dates your family is available. |

Applying After the Deadline Lower School Guidelines Applications will be accepted after the Priority Application Deadline only for grades with availability. Summer applicants may not be evaluated until August. Exceptions for out of town applicants will be made on a case by case basis. |
